DESIGN FEATURE // Creating a "Southern Charm" Outdoor Style
To get started, I met with the client and viewed the beautiful home to get a feel for the space and their current style. We reviewed examples of a variety of different outdoor styles and discovered that their style is a classic “Southern Charm”. I then created a mood board and sent that off to the client to make sure that we were on the same page for their “Southern Charm” outdoor style.
The “Southern Charm” outdoor style is characterized by big southern porches, the traditional “haint blue” painted porch ceilings and window sills + accents, along with lots of cozy seating for relaxing + entertaining.
For this project, we needed to acquire all new furniture, with the exception of the chairs around the fire pit that the client already had. We sought to create different “rooms” throughout the whole project that were both usable and inviting.
There was a unique covered porch spot where we installed a beautiful swing bed that overlooks the pool. This is a perfect spot for people to relax and visit while kids are splashing below. The swing bed provides a modern feel with it’s sleek lines, and is made of real eucalyptus wood; the grey hue of the wood contributes to a more modern feel for this type of “South Charm” outdoor piece.
We also added a bold blue & white stripe, scalloped retractable awning. Below, the clients can cook up a delicious menu and serve directly on the new dining table.
And lastly, we selected chaise lounge chairs to fill up the arched patio at the end of the pool with a fun “Southern Charm” outdoor style. The navy umbrella and blue stool ties into the blue accents near the house.
We hope you enjoyed seeing this project and “Southern Charm” outdoor style come together!
